TrueScan provided 3D laser scanning services for a proposed bourbon distillery development inside a historic limestone mine in Upstate New York.
The client needed to determine whether the underground space was suitable for the planned use and required precise, current measurements of the mine’s unusual geometry and conditions before conceptual design could move forward.
Location: Upstate New York
Property Type: Historic limestone mine / adaptive reuse
Services:
Size / Scope: Underground mine space being evaluated for a future distillery
Areas Documented:
Deliverables:
The client was evaluating whether part of the historic mine could support a new bourbon distillery.
The underground space included irregular geometry, a sloping interior through the mountain, and a large freshwater spring, making accurate spatial documentation especially important for assessing the feasibility of the concept.
TrueScan laser scanned the mine to capture precise measurements of the existing underground conditions.
Once the scans were registered, the resulting data was delivered to the design team for use in Rhino, 3D Studio Max, and SolidWorks.
The designers used the scan data to develop conceptual plans for the proposed distillery and evaluate how the new use could fit within the existing mine.
