In order to design a new and improved skylight at the New York Metropolitan Museum of Art, TrueScan was commissioned to laser scan the structural components of the existing skylight. The scan was then used to create a 3D model of primary steel framing of the existing skylight. TrueScan delivered the data and the client used the model as a detailed reference with which to design the new skylight in AutoDesk Inventor. Once the new skylight design was modeled, the designer forwarded the completed design to a steel fabricator that used their model to prefabricate a new steel frame that was a perfect fit for the existing steel structure.
