University Of Kentucky Stadium Renovation

The University of Kentucky Commonwealth Stadium in Lexington, home to the Kentucky Wildcats, is currently undergoing a major $110 million dollar renovation. Improvements will include several aesthetic and structural enhancements; native Kentucky limestone and barn wood will be incorporated into the design, new landscaping will surround the stadium, also a new press-box, widened concourses and 20 new luxury suites will be chief among the structural changes taking place.

The structural steel components which will support the new facilities are being prefabricated off-site and will be delivered ready to install. To ensure that the pre-fabricated materials are a perfect fit, TrueScan was hired to provide 3D scanning and create Revit models of the existing steel so the steel fabricators and detailers would have the most precise measurements to work from.

The initial fieldwork was conducted over the course of a week and the 3D modeling in Revit was performed using various techniques over the following three weeks. In addition to the 3D point cloud and Revit models, TrueScan also provided 2D elevation, section, and floor plan views of the stadium cut directly from the Revit model.
